Our Story

The people behind Fingal’s Bakery are the same team that have been running City and Country Farmers’ Markets since 2001, providing food-loving Londoners with bustling community markets selling exceptional produce.

Chris Elder, working closely with his daughter Sophie and a dedicated team, set up their first market in the grounds of Dulwich College more than 16 years ago. CCFM now boasts a total of seven markets across London including award-winning markets at Alexandra Palace in North London, and Herne Hill in South London, where London foodies can sample and buy a huge selection of fresh produce from small farms within 100 miles of London, including cheeses and other dairy produce, fresh and smoked meats, poultry, fish, pressed fruit juices, ready to eat beautiful cold and hot dishes and of course, bread.

“I come from a large family of food lovers and began working in food development many years ago after spotting a need for good quality, organic, local produce, long before it became trendy. Bread has always been a passion of mine which is why I am pursuing a long-held dream to open a bakery and café in Maze Hill in London. At the heart of my plan is the production of astounding breads, freshly baked on site, using only the finest organic flours, milled in traditional ways. Sourdoughs, soda breads, superb scones, soft & crispy pretzels and gluten-free fare will be first out of the oven for all to buy!

Our bread will be as fresh as it can possibly be. That means no transportation, no middle man, just beautifully crafted loaves made fresh every day by expert bakers.”
